Six of Nine Part 3 of 3

Library 2.0

Inherently I think that all the ideas are the same that the internet has made obtaining information easier and libraries have to adapt and include new technologies as part of the way that we provide patrons with information. I think that the major difference is of the way in which different libraries view libraries now. From the different perspectives I read I enjoyed Away from Icebergs

“No profession can survive if it throws its core principles and values overboard in response to every shift in the zeitgeist. However, it can be equally disastrous when a profession fails to acknowledge and adapt to radical, fundamental change in the marketplace it serves”

But then I am fickle (first article read and being short helped its cause)…..

I also agreed with the opinions in To a temporary place in time which stated

“Libraries are not merely in communities, they are communities: they preserve and promote community memories; they provide mentors not only for the exploration of stored memory, but also for the creation of new artifacts of memory”

And that’s my 2 cents….

Technorati Again

Unfortunately my blog remains unclaimed as of today (though it wasn’t due to lack of trying). I have made my peace with this I mean it is highly unlikely nay impossible that anyone will

a. either claim my blog or
b. search for it in technorati (facts are facts)

I did manage to search for Manukau Libraries Web Learning 2.0 It was easier to search with Manukau libraries. I found 3 different blogs including the mllearn. I have also found that it has become easier to search for mllearn blog with Google now that it has been claimed on Technorati.

I also tried popular. Unfortunately some websites were blocked but I did manage to visit Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done. Best thing on the blog Melt Mail which is a website which allocates people random email addresses which lasts for form 1 hour up to 24 hours (for all those pesky websites which required registration but send a lot of junk emails)

Yes, words are useless! Gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble-gobble! Too much of it, darling, too much! That is why I show you my work! That is why you are here!

Tagging

Tagging is like an opinionated Google so of course I loved it. Its existence was always a given but the knowledge was more like background music (everyone knows it’s playing but no one is really hearing it). Unfortunately I am currently doing this at work and more than ½ of the websites which I searched for in Del.icio.us were not particularly cooperative in loading. This was probably because many of these sites were not in English( was searching for anime images….it hard to think up work and library appropriate material !!!). Fortunately 1 of the 10 websites I clicked actually loaded so here is a picture of Ouran high School Host Club( one of the best manga)

The other tags I used were for design wallpaper. I found a really nice website in case anyone wants to check it out http://www.desktopography.net/. Here is a really nice desktop wallpaper from it

Definitely useful however I have yet to create an account. Worth checking out other tagging websites before I sign up.
